Requirements
Graduation
requirements are established by the State of California and the Torrance
School Board. District policy requires the following:
- Each
student shall maintain a satisfactory citizenship record. Six or more
semesters of composite satisfactory or excellent citizenship grades
are required for graduation. Students not meeting the above requirements
must enroll in a special class.

Each
student must have a minimum of 220 credits and have met other Torrance
District criteria to be eligible to graduate and participate in the
graduation ceremony.

Each
student will be enrolled in at least six classes during each semester
in attendance, with the exception of seniors who may take five classes
during the spring semester.

Each
student shall obtain credit as follows:
Mathematics
- 20 credits
Science
- 20 credits
English
- 40 credits
Social
Studies 30 credits (10 world studies, 10 American
studies, 5 government, 5 economics)
Health
Education - 5 credits
Physical
Education - 20 credits (required in grades 9 and
10)
Fine
Arts or Foreign Language - 10 credits (a full year
of one foreign language or one year of fine arts)

Limitations on Credits Counting Toward Graduation:
Class
Aide - 10 credits maximum
Work
Experience - 20 credits maximum (Seniors
only)
Physical
Education - 40 credits maximum of regular
P.E.

- Each student
must pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). The
CAHSEE is given beginning in the sophomore year and repeated
in the following years for those who do not pass the first
time. This requirement is being reviewed by the State Board
of Education. Final information will be distributed as it
becomes available.
