Discipline

We request that you and your student review this policy prior to the opening of school. Our goals are to assist you in training your student for good citizenship and to keep the South High campus orderly pleasant and safe for all.We hope this policy will clarify for you the types of disciplinary action that will result when students violate our standards. We believe that if we are clear about our standards and firm and consistent in enforcing them, students’ behavior will in most cases meet our expectations. The purpose of discipline in the school is to maintain a climate which is conducive to learning and to assist students in becoming responsible adults. The school has an obligation to protect the welfare of ALL students and an interest in assisting each student in achieving self-discipline, which is the epitome of individual behavior. To accomplish this, it has been necessary to develop appropriate school rules and consequences for the violation of those rules. Violation of the following standards may result in a recommendation for expulsion, suspension, adjustment transfer to another school, arrest, or a filing with the probation department:

  and battery
serious physical injury to another person

or willful disobedience to school authority
use of or sale of firearms, knives, explosives, or other dangerous weapons or objects including replicas of weapons
  or vulgarity
  or extortion
  of controlled substances
  harassment
  or possession of tobacco

  or possession of drugs
